TCB Astros March Madness 2014: Rio Ruiz vs Danry Vasquez

Third base prospect Rio Ruiz vs outfield prospect Danry Vasquez

TCB's Astros Fan Favorite March Madness Tournament is underway. From now until the end of Spring Training 64 players will spend the next several weeks facing off in a head to head public vote to determine who advances to the next round and who will eventually be crowned the communities favorite Astros player. For more details check out the tournament introductory post.

The rules are simple, determine which player you want to advance to the next round and then vote. Vote subjectively, objectively, using your trusty magic eight ball or any other set of criteria. It's totally up to you how you want to vote! Votes for this round will last exactly 24 hours.

In this match-up

6 - Rio Ruiz

The savvy 4th-round overslot signing, Ruiz's first full season in the system was better than most people might think on the surface. His OPS saw large, notable improvements in each month after a rocky start in April, and he ended the year by hitting .298/.342/.558 in August and ending the season with 12 bombs 33 doubles. The steady progression was likely enough to punch a ticket for A+ Lancaster to start the season, and he could even see a little time at AA near the end of the year if all goes well. -Ashitaka

vs

11 - Danry Vasquez

Tons of upside remain for Vasquez. A 20-year-old with good contact skills and likely a good bit of power left to appear. He has plenty of work left to do and will likely open the season in Quad Cities where he ended 2013, but a breakout is possible and could see him shoot up the rankings. -Ashitaka
