Houston's 40-man roster is a little crowded. Signing infielder Jed Lowrie would be a tricky proposition, since Houston currently has no room on its 40-man.
However, they have a little room now.
Roster move: #Astros designate Gregorio Petit for assignment to make room for Lowrie.

Petit, 30, was DFAed six days after his birthday on Dec. 10. Those heartless Astros front office robots strike again!
In 37 games and 100 plate appearances, Petit hit .278/.300/.423 with two home runs, a 25 percent strikeout rate and a wRC+ of 104. He also had positive defensive numbers, but could be priced out of an infield spot by the superior utility man Marwin Gonzalez.
Oh, and Jeff Luhnow says that Marwin may have a chance to win the third base job away from Matt Dominguez in spring training.
YES! Do it, @marwinGF9 RT @squaresy9 "Marwin could win 3rd base job in spring training." - Luhnow @BenDuBose

Good stuff all around out of this press conference. Sad to see Petit leave, after he was signed last winter out of the Padres system on the recommendation of Jose Altuve. Petit was a good glove guy who actually hit a little. But, the presence of Lowrie on the roster made him expendable.
What do you think? Surprised L.J. Hoes wasn't the roster casualty? Surprised Houston hasn't made a trade yet to clear things up?
