Shortly after the news broke that the Astros had claimed Diamondbacks pitcher Will Harris, the Astros officially announced the team had added catcher Carlos Perez on 40-man roster, activated right-handed pitcher Josh Zeid from the 60-day DL, and outrighted RHP Jose Cisnero off the 40-man roster.

Perez was acquired by the Astros in 2012 as part of the J.A. Happ trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. The catcher slipped through the Rule-5 draft before the 2014 season, and spent the entire season in Triple-A Oklahoma City. Perez batted .259 with 24 extra-base hits and 34 RBIs. Perez's best tools are behind the plate on defense.
Josh Zeid made 23 appearances out of the bullpen this past season, posting a 6.97 ERA. Zeid's season ended with surgery to correct bilateral sesamoiditis in July.
The Astros signed Jose Cisnero amateur free agent in 2007, and was to the 40-man roster in 2012. Cisnero had a 4.66 ERA in 48 1/3 major league innings with the Astros. His 2014 campaign was cut short with Tommy John surgery this may.
After today the Astros 40-man roster sits at 39 players, four of those players are catchers. Interesting to see the Astros protect Carlos Perez the second time around in the Rule-5 draft, could the Astros be planning on moving a catcher?
