Preview

The Astros head west after a poor showing at home against the Twins. Houston only has pride, the first or second slot in the draft, and possibly destruction in the AL West race to play for. Former A's pitcher Brad Peacock takes the mound for the Astros today. Since returning the rotation last month, he has made five starts with a 2-2 record and a 3.94 ERA. He had his worst outing since returning to the rotation on August 30 against Seattle, lasting only 4 2/3 innings while giving up five runs. Peacock has kept the base paths busy over his last five starts, he allowed 24 hits and 14 walks.

Coco Crisp and Eric Sogard have feasted on the former A's pitcher, each are 3-4 in their carers. Crisp has a double, triple, and home run against Peacock with two runs batted in. Sogard accounted for a double and triple.

For Oakland, Sonny Gray is making his second start this season against Houston. In his first outing on August 15, Gray held the Astros scoreless over eight innings. He has given up two runs over less in four of his last five starts. Gray's one blemish has been against Orioles, giving up six runs over 3 1/3 innings on August 25. Of the four hits the Astros got off Gray in their one previous encounter, two came from Robbie Grossman.
