Astros Minor League Recap: September 2, 2013

It's a minor league sweep! Four teams had their season finale. One team won a playoff game. And, one team is very close to clinching.

OkC Ends Season with 2-1 Win

The regular season is officially over and I'm sad. Not really...I'm actually quite a bit frustrated. No, not frustrated...I'm ANGRY! How do you sit THE George Springer on the final game of the season when he's three home runs short of the 40/40 season? Sure, it's unlikely that he would do it. But, it's not completely insane to think he had a chance to hit three home runs. It might have been a 1%, or even less, but he could have done it.

But, in all seriousness, it's time to give him a break. The chances were so slim and he's been playing very regularly trying to get those home runs. We don't know for sure, but it's not outlandish for the coaching staff to think he's been pressing and in need of a day off to clear his head, leave that on the table and prepare mentally for the playoffs.

First Half and Second Half Titles? Yeah...That's How CC Rolls

The Hooks regular season is also closed as of their 7-6 win yesterday. Go ahead and just thank Domingo Santana. He knocked two home runs to bring his season total to 25. How's that for Lancaster power? Boom! Roasted!

Aaron West Makes Me Fall in Love All Over Again in Season Finale

Dude is a baller. He picked up his 10th win and struck out eight. He walked one and allowed two hits. Aaron, you're my boy! You're by boy, Aaron! (10 worthless and non-redeemable points for first person who posts what movie that is obviously ripped from.)

Oh, they also won the second half officially as well as the first half.

Edit: Aaron West hit 98 MPH in the second and third inning yesterday. #HEAT

Season Finale is a 3-2 Win for QC

We're on our way to a minor league sweep and the pitching is the reason in this game. Daniel Minor was solid, but Jamaine Cotton was great in relief. Zach Morton picked up his first save in QC with a perfect 9th.

  • Daniel Minor-6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO, 3/4 GO/AO
  • Jamaine Cotton-2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO

TC Gains Another Game in Stedler Lead with 3-1 Win

It comes down to two games. In order to Tri-City to not be in the playoffs, they have to lose both of their remaining two games and Lowell has to win both of theirs.

  • Kyle Westwood-7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 12/2 GO/AO

  • Conrad Gregor 1B-2-4

Greeneville Lives to Die Another Day

They won 7-2, and now have tied the series 1-1. The series finale is tomorrow! Chris Lee wasn't great, but he limited the damage to keep the game winnable, but it was the offense that really won the game. Thomas Lindauer, Tanner Mathis, and Brian Holberton all walked away with mult-hit games and Ariel Ovando launched a home run.

  • Chris Lee-5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO, 1 HR, 6/3 GO/AO
  • Austin Chrismon-3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR, 3/0 GO/AO
