Preview

I have come to think about the past few Astros seasons, including 2013 season, like a scene from "The Shawshank Redemption".  The Houston Astros - the team that crawled through a river of s__ and came out clean on the other side. The problem is that the team hasn't reached the clean part yet. While the Astros have been the laughing stock of baseball throughout 2013, no one has denied the future is as bright as a supernova. So let's end 2013 on a high note with the Yankees in town and look toward 2014.

Speaking of the Yankees, if memory serves me two players are retiring at the end of this season - two little 'o players named Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte. Of course these two players are not little any means, they have been the cornerstones of the Yankee's vast success over the last two decades. It's only fitting the former Astro and Deer Park native Pettitte returns to Houston in his final professional series. As for Rivera, his final appearance in New York yesterday felt more like the final chapter. The games in Houston for Rivera are some quasi exhibition games were he'll play the outfield at some point.

Turing to the actual game, Adam Warren is making his second start of the season for the pinstripes. He has made 32 previous relief appearances this season with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. Warren's lone start game on August 21 against Toronto, he lasted only three innings and gave up 2 runs on four hits. The right hander has previous faced the Astros this season way back on April 29. He allowed two runs over 1.2 innings of work. Three of the six batters he faced that game recorded a hit, Carlos Corporan left the yard with a runner aboard in that one meeting. Robbie Grossman and Brandon Barnes accounted for the two other hits.

Brett Oberholtzer is making his tenth and final start for the Astros in 2013. Obe' has a record of 3-3 with a 2.14 and 1.05 WHIP when making a start in 2013. The Astros are 5-4 in his starts this season. The left-hander has allowed five earned runs over his last 27 innings. The only Yankee hitter with a previous at-bat against Obe' this season is Mark Reynolds, who is 0-for-1
