TCBP AB 98: Rule 5 Eligibility

In this episode David Coleman, Sean Feist, Ryan Dunsmore and myself discuss

  • Rule 5 eligibility and the George Springer math
  • David Paulino joins the Astros farm system
  • The future of Dallas Keuchel and Lucas Harrell

Rule 5 and George Springer

First, Mike Fast was kind enough to stop by and give us a full list of Rule 5 eligible players in the Astros farm system. David is of the opinion that George Springer should have been called up two months ago and goes on a rant about that while I break down some of the math involved that may help explain why Springer was left off the 40 man to protect one more player from the Rule 5 draft. I tend to agree with David but I'm not exactly upset that Springer isn't up yet. The month of September is an opportunity to get a better feel for players that are on the 40-man roster bubble.

David Paulino is PTBNL in Jose Veras Trade

19-year old right-handed pitcher David Paulino was sent over from the Detroit Tigers to complete the Jose Veras trade. It's another lottery ticket type of player for the Astros.

There are some things to be positive about with Paulino and Danry Vasquez, the other piece to the Jose Veras trade.

The Astros' Future Rotation

I got into a bit of a discussion about Dallas Keuchel on Twitter and his future in the Astros rotation. I know he's not the sexiest pitcher for a rotation but I think he can be a solid middle or back end of the rotation guy for the Astros. He's relatively young, controllable and statistically he's due for some positive regression that should come along with another year of big league experience. I've been a big support of Keuchel for a while now and I think you should be too.

TCB AMP 18: WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

In this episode Brooks Parker, Anthony Boyer and myself discuss:

  • Astros minor league Playoff updates and recaps
  • Surprises and disappointments for Lancaster, Quad Cities, Greeneville and Tri-City
  • Next week's Podcast

Astros Minor League Playoffs

Congratulations are in order for both the Quad Cities River Bandits and Tri-City ValleyCats as they both won championships. What's interesting to note about those two teams is that they are filled with 2012 and 2013 draft guys. Now, that's building a winning culture.

Surprises and Disappointments

Yeah, no...Not gonna touch this topic this time.

The Future of the Astros Minors Podcast

The AMP podcast was never going to be a year round podcast because quite frankly there's only so much you can talk about prospects in the offseason and what stuff we do cover can be covered in the regular podcast. With that said we will continue to put out the AMP podcast as long as we have content to cover. That means we need your questions to keep this going as long as possible. Hit up Brooks on Twitter or leave a question below in the comment section.

I'm pretty sure with instructs, the Arizona Fall League and Winter Leagues we'll have at least one more before shutting it down for the year.
