MLB Scores: Angels 2, Astros 1

A Marc Krauss solo shot in the bottom of the second inning was the extent of the Houston offense in support of Paul Clemens.

It was quite a shame as Clemens fired arguably his best start of the year. The young righty lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and only two earned runs. The first run came in the first when Clemens issued his only walk of the afternoon to Mike Trout. Josh Hamilton followed with a triple to center to score Trout, making it 1-0 Angels.

Krauss' homer to right field tied it up at one. It remained tied until the fifth when Andrew Romine knocked in Erick Aybar with a sac fly. Krauss, who made the catch, relayed it to Villar who was able to double off Hank Conger from first, who was way too far off.

Still, the run scored for the Angels, and it proved to be the deciding one. The Astros best chance to tie it up or take the lead came in the eighth. Brandon Barnes led off the inning with a single and Villar followed with a walk. Angels manager Mike Scioscia took no chances with leaving Dane De La Rosa in the game and replaced him with closer Ernesto Frieri.

Jose Altuve bunted to move the runners to second and third with one out, but Frieri was able to strike out Trevor Crowe and Brett Wallace to end the inning. Frieri also worked a scoreless ninth to get his 34th save of the year.

Out of the Houston bullpen, Kevin Chapman and Chia-Jen Lo combined to work two scoreless, keeping the Astros in it.

The Astros finished with seven hits - Barnes the only with two hits - and other than Krauss' homer, the team only had six singles.

Erik Bedard's return to the Astros' starting rotation comes on Monday as he will face Johnny Cueto and the Reds in an interleague series.
