TCBP AB 95: The Legend of Cody Clark
In this episode Terri Schlather, Ryan Dunsmore and myse discuss
- Astros catchers Carlos Corporan, Max Stassi and Cody Clark
- Notes on Reid Ryan's speech at the August Houston Chapter SABR meeting
- Kyle Weiland has been found!
Bad and Good Week For Astros Catchers
First Carlos Corporan was placed on the disabled list after being hit in the back of the head by a fall ball. Then Max Stassi is placed on the disabled list after being hit in the face by a pitch. Then Cody Clark was called up to make his major league debut after rising and grinding in the minor leagues for 11 years.
It's a great story and it almost had a story book ending Sunday night when Clark came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning with the Astros down a run. He would ground out but even that came with a little bit of drama as it was a high chopper that got past the pitcher. Unfortunately, the shortstop was able to charge in and make a play on the ball to end the game and give the Toronto Blue Jays the win. Clark still had a very good game. From what I could tell he called a good game but also threw out two runners on two very good throws. One of the would be base stealers was Jose Reyes.
I don't know how long Clark will be at the majors but he'll have a pretty good topper story for parties, "That's a nice story, but I threw out Jose Reyes at the big league level."
Reid Ryan Speaks at a SABR Event
Excellent reader, and former lurker, Robbie Stevens attended the most recent Houston Chapter SABR event. At that event Ryan spilled the beans on everything from why George Springer wouldn't be called up to a possible Astros museum at Minute Maid Park. And Robbie was kind enough to share his impressions and notes in a FanPost.
Enjoy.
Kyle Weiland is Saved!
Lost in all the other news was the news that Kyle Weiland had escaped from Weiland Island and was spotted by Kevin Bass' Stache who snapped a picture of Weiland at Friday's Oklahoma City RedHawks game.

TCB AMP 15: The Creepy Podcast
In this episode Brooks Parker, Anthony Boyer and myself discuss:
- Brooks rants about George Springer and Carlos Correa promotions
- The Astros minor league affiliates playoff picture
- The promotions game
Free George Springer and while you're at it Free Carlos Correa as well
There seems to be a bit of an outcry for George Springer and Carlos Correa to be promoted. To be honest I haven't see a lot of it so I can't really comment on it but Brooks was fully prepared to comment on it...from his soap box.
Astros in the Playoffs
Yes, there will be some Astros in the playoffs this year. They're future Astros but Astros just the same. Brooks provides a playoff picture for each team in the minor leagues, which has changed since Sunday night.
The Promotions Game
It's the return of our promotions game where we describe a promotion in one word or phrase. David Martinez, Luis Cruz, Matt Duffy, Zach Johnson and more are discussed
