Astros Minor League Recap: August 25, 2013

I have to give up my Nick Tropeano love for another Hook and did Mark Appel make his final start of the season?

RedHawks fall 9-2

Jake Buchanan is human. Or at least his fastball is. He gave up seven earned in six innings, which is what you call a bad day. A bad stinking day. I mean that will do it. He just wasn't his normal self. He normally has an extreme groundball rate and he actually had just one more groundout than flyouts. That's not very Jake Buck of him.

  • Jake Buchanan-6 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 1 HR, 88/59 P/S, 6/5 GO/AO
  • Pat Urckfitz-1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO
  • Wade LeBlanc-1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO
  • Jose Martinez 2B-1-4, HR

The Duff-Man Does What The Duff-Man Does in 3-2 Win

It's hard for me not to rave on Tropeano's very nice start, but I have to point out that Matt Duffy has real power. It's a small sample since he's only been in Corpus for a little over two weeks, but the dude now has five home runs. His ISO hasn't dropped. It's actually gone up eight points outside of The Hangar. His average has dropped, but so has his BABIP. He remains interesting!

  • Nick Tropeano-6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO, 6/5 GO/AO, 101/66 P/S

  • Ronald Torreyes SS-2-4

JetHawks Clinch 2nd Half with 7-1 Win

We talked on the podcast about playoff scenarios and shortly after it was all over, they officially clinched the 2nd half championship. They were already in the playoffs from winning the first half, but this is just icing on the cake!

  • Colton Cain-7 2/3 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO, 6/10 GO/AO

River Bandits Win Again 5-1

Are you surprised? This prospect studded team is very exciting right now. Appel's final start? 2013 draft picks littered on the roster. Add on high draft picks like Ruiz and Correa....why would you not follow this team?

  • Mark Appel-5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO, 5/5 GO/AO

  • Roberto Pena C-2-3, HR, BB

TC's Offense Explodes in 7-3 Win

Thirteen hits. 13 hits. THIRTEEN HITS. Would you like me to write that out in another way? The top three hitters reached based eight times. Boys did work! Who knew that James Ramsay would be tied for second in home runs on this team? Is he really the second coming of Andrew Aplin (but different)? Also, Gregor and Kemmer need to step up! Can't let the speedy center fielder beat ya'll!

  • Edison Frias-6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 8/2 GO/AO
  • Krishawn Holley-1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, 1 HR

  • Tyler White 3B-2-4
  • Jon Kemmer RF-2-4, 2B
  • Chan Moon SS-1-3, 2B

Greeneville Takes a 4-3 Win in the 10th

Jandel Gustave found his control again for another strong outing. He's easily one of the biggest surprises this year and will be one I follow with very close intent next year #Want.
