Astros GIF: Jordan Lyles' Athleticism

Coming out of high school, Jordan Lyles was committed to the University of South Carolina, the school I am currently taking classes at. He was expected to not only pitch for the South Carolina baseball team, that would go on to with two national championships, but also play football for Steve Spurrier...as a wide receiver.

While I'm sure Ray Tanner and the South Carolina baseball team didn't exactly miss Lyles, Steve Spurrier may have missed out on adding another athletic wide receiver to the core of Alshon Jeffrey and Ace Sanders. Instead of going to college Lyles, considered a tough sign at the time, signed with the Houston Astros after being selected 38th in the 2008 draft.

He made his debut in 2011 at the ripe young age of 20. At the age of 22 he's already racked up 350+ innings and while he hasn't exactly impressed he has shown flashes of brilliance. Friday night was one of those nights in which he flashes some of that brilliance. So far, In seven innings of work he allowed two runs on eight hits, while striking out two batters and walking one.
