Astros roster moves: Max Stassi to be called up, Carlos Corporan headed to DL?

New, comments breaks some pretty interesting roster news about Houston's catching situation

The Influence of The Goldstein finally strikes.

Brian McTaggart is scooping everyone with news that the Astros will be calling up catcher Max Stassi from Double-A Corpus Christi to replace Carlos Corporan, who suffered a minor head injury on Monday.

The arrival of Stassi on Tuesday night in Arlington for his Major League debut likely means Carlos Corporan is headed to the disabled list after leaving Monday's game against the Rangers with a possible concussion. He was hit on the head by a foul tip in the third inning.

Stassi was acquired from Oakland in the Jed Lowrie deal. His arrival in the majors means that all three players acquired for Lowrie will be on the major league team at the same time. That's not a bad return for a 30-year old shortstop.

Stassi struggled with some minor injuries this year at Corpus, but got back in a groove recently and started hitting home runs like he was George Springer or something. In 323 plate appearances, Stassi hit .277/.333/.529 with 17 home runs and a 139 wRC+.

What do you think? How shocking is this? Are you surprised Houston was willing to start the clock on Stassi now rather than bring up Carlos Perez, who's at OKC? Does this feed into the theory that Houston is attempting to get the RedHawks that PCL championship?
