What is this madness? The Astros have won two game in a row for the first time since the middle of June. It may have something to do with the Astros starters only allowing one run over their last 13 innings. Or, maybe they just aren't fans of Chris Young.

Hoping to keep the good times rolling, Erik Bedard takes the mound today in Oakland. Bedard is 0-2 in two starts against Oakland this season. Bedard is coming off two straight quality starts against Minnesota and Texas. In his first outing he wasn't able to get out of the first inning, giving up six runs and retiring only one batter. In his second on May 24, Bedard held the A's to two runs over five innings - walking five and striking out four.

Two A's hitter have had ten-plus at-bats against Bedard, Coco Crisp (1-16) and Chris Young (2-10). Crisp has also collected four walks and four strikeouts against the left-hander. Yeonis Cespedes is 1-for-3 with an run batted. Nat Freiman has a home run and three runs batted from their first encounter this season. That is the lone extra base hit allowed by Bedard to A's hitters this season.

Sonny Gray will be making his second start of the season for the A's. The Vanderbilt product went six innings and allowed four runs to the Blue Jays in his first start. His record in Triple-A Sacramento before joining Oakland was 10-7 3.42 ERA in 20 starts. Gray is working with a mid-90's four seam fastball, curve, slider, sinker, and change.

The bottom of the Astros lineup has been getting on base this series, both L.J. Hoes and Jonathan Villar are 3-for-8 over the last two games. Chris Carter has an run batted in in both games, and Jose Altuve is batting .300 (3-10) in the three-hole.
