While Byron Buxton has been dominating the headlines, Carlos Correa has been dominating the baseball. Over the last 28 days, Buxton is batting .323/.379/.462, with 9 BB and 21 K. Correa is batting .422/.479/.578, with 8 BB and only 12 K. Not to mention the fact that Correa is almost a full year younger.
Whether or not the Astros made the "right" decision selecting Carlos Correa over Bryon Buxton remains to be seen, but I have a feeling these last few months will be a microcosm of the two's careers. Buxton is going to be a star, with his loud tools, and Bryce Harper eye black, while the soft-spoken Correa quietly goes about his business.
There are going to be days when Buxton looks like the better player, but there are also going to be days when Correa looks like the better player. Instead of writing about how the Astros really blew it passing on Buxton, why can't we all agree that they're both going to be damn good players? Bottom line, only one player got drafted with the Astros – that's the guy who has my loyalty. Correa forever <3.
(That sound you hear is me convincing myself that the Astros made the "right" pick).
