Preview
First of all, if you haven't read David's preview for Jarred Cosart - do so. Don't worry I'll be here when you get back.
Like the majority of Astros fan, I'm excited to see Cosart take the mound in Houston. But, first lets talk about the Athletics first. On the mound for the A's today is Jarrod Parker. (Wonder how many writer will be confusing Jarrod with Jarred?) Parker has some how missed starting in one of the previous three series against Houston.
He has lowered his ERA each month this season, starting at 7.36 in April, 3.62 in May, 2.08 in June, and 2.70 in July. The last time Parker failed to have a quality start was May 6, that is 12 straight starts. Parker has excellent command of his fastball and late breaking change-up to keep batters of balance. This will be the first any current Astro faces Parker, as a team Houston is batting .228 against right-handed pitching.
Again, I defer to Mr. Coleman - who excellently previewed Cosart's start tonight. Getting down to the nuts and bolts, Cosart returned to AAA after dominating the Rays in his lone major league start. Cosart pitched 1 2/3 inning in the AAA All-Star game during that time, he gave up four runs on three hits. He picked up the loss for the Pacific Coast League. I would hope a exhibition game wouldn't phase Cosart, but we'll find out tonight.
