This is a first for me. I have never seen a player lose his bat on a foul ball but that's what J.D. Martinez did Monday night against Joe Blanton and the Angels:
Here it is from a different angle
No one was baseball fans were hurt in the creation of this GIFs.
This may be my new favorite GIF; there's so much to analyze. Obviously, you have the ball going one way and the bat going the other way but there's also the look both ways by JD Martinez and Joe Blanton and then the synchronized look left and then right of both the umpire and Chris Iannetta, the Angels catcher.
It's both hilarious and beautiful to look at.
J.D. Martinez would strike out looking to finish his at bat. Martinez has been on fire for two weeks now with a .367 average, a .392 on-base percentage and a .551 slugging percentage which include two home runs and nine runners driven in. On the season he's hitting .277/.301/.469.
