Pitching Match

LHP John Danks (1-2 / 1.04 ERA / 1.58 WHIP) vs. RHP Lucas Harrell (4-7 / 4.52 ERA / 1.77 WHIP)

Preview

Lucas Harrell will be on the mound today, to build upon the Astros' inconceivable victory last night. Harrell has struggled to find his way in 2013, he has been the most vocal about the defensive shifts the team has implemented in the field. The Astros right hander was a 1/3 of an inning away from three straight quality starts, in his most recent work. Harrell had his best outing of the year in his last start, holding Kanas City scoreless over seven innings. The former White Sox pitcher, continues to give up a flood of walks. He currently has the third highest number of walks of any pitcher in the majors (40) and the lowest K/BB rate (1.08) of qualifying pitchers. In a start against the White Sox on June 10, 2012, Harrell picked up the win - 11-9. He allowed 5 earned runs on six hits, struck out 9, and walked 2 over 5 1/3 innings. Adam Dunn touched up Harrell for a solo homerun.

The 2012 Opening Day starter for the Sox, John Danks, is returning from shoulder surgery this past season. Tonight, he will be making his fifth start of 2013. His last outing against Oakland was his best start thus far, giving up 1 run over 8 innings. Danks struck out 6 batters, walked one, and scattered three hits against the Athletics. Carlos Pena has 16 at-bats against the left-hander in his carrer, 2 of his 4 hits of Danks are homeruns.
