If Bo Porter was upset about last Saturday's loss to the Royals, I imagine he's going to be just as steamed about this one. While the Astros only lost by a run, there were a number of plays that sunk this ship. Let's run through them briefly:
- Triunfel's rundown that allowed Kyle Seager to get to second. Not a huge deal, but since Seager scored the go-ahead run eventually, it kinda was.
- The error by Dominguez/Carter's non-picking self. Directly led to a run. Ugh.
- Jose Altuve misses a ball on a flip to second. As KevinBassStache said on Twitter, when Jose Altuve looks like he forgot how to play baseball, things are bad.
Things looked okay on the surface. Dallas Keuchel only allowed one run over six innings. Wade LeBlanc gave up an unearned run of his own, but other than that pitched well. Jose Veras got into a little bit of trouble in the eighth, but pitched well in his first appearance in five games.
No, the part of this team that continues to struggle is the offense. Houston had chances, like when Jose Altuve doubled to center field or Carlos Pena legged out a leadoff double of his own. But, the rest of the offense was unable to drive in runs.
Two more games, then Houston comes back or a little bit of time. It may be that this team needs to be home for a few series to get this road trip out of their system.
