Josh Fields Activated, Edgar Gonzalez To Disabled List

Josh Fields returns to the Astros as Edgar Gonzalez departs for the disabled list.

USA TODAY Sports

According to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle, reliever, and rule 5 selection, Josh Fields was activated prior to Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He replaces Edgar Gonzalez on the major league roster who is dealing with some shoulder soreness.

Claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, Goznalez has pitched 10 relief innings for the Astros and posted a 7.20 ERA, a 7.56 FIP and a 4.50 xFIP. If it's not immediately apparent to you from those three numbers, Gonzalez has had trouble with the long ball posting a 26.7% home run to fly ball ratio (league average is 11%).

Josh Fields has faced two batters for the Astros this season and didn't allow either to reach. He pitched 10 innings in the minots allowing two runs, on nine hits, allowed no walks and struck out eight between Class A and Class AA.

Here's hoping he proves to be an effective late inning reliever for the Astros
