Astros roster moves: Dallas Keuchel recalled, Travis Blackley to DL

Sweet lord, but the Astros aren't having any luck with injuries so far this season. First, Alex White goes down before the season even begins and needs Tommy John surgery. Now, newly acquired left-hander Travis Blackley apparently strained his shoulder in his first bullpen session at Minute Maid Park on Friday and is heading to the 15-day disabled list. Taking his spot on the roster as the swingman is left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who has not pitched for Oklahoma City yet this season.

Keuchel went 3-8 in 85 innings with the big league team last year, posting a 5.27 ERA and striking out 38 while walking 39. He had a 9.00 ERA in seven innings this spring, striking out five and walking none. He was supposed to be part of the tandem rotation with Jarred Cosart and pitch on Friday, but the Astros must have been able to pull him out after learning of Blackley's injury. With Thursday's season opener rained out, OKC and Memphis played a double-header on Friday, with the starting tandem of Jordan Lyles and Paul Clemens each starting a game.

This is not a good sign for a beleaguered bullpen, is it? Did anyone have Keuchel as the first one up in case of an injury? Did you think the Astros would be trying so hard to get a third lefty arm into the bullpen? At least they broke the shutout streak, I guess. More importantly, should Jeff Luhnow next hire Brooks as his injury consultant for any future trades?
