Sunday was so long ago.
The Astros continued their timid trek into the American League hopeful for a series win on Wednesday.
Unlike Sunday and Tuesday which featured plenty of positive vibes for the Astros, Wednesday's game was probably more indicative of what type of game Astros fans are likely to see season. Strikeouts and miscues in the field plagued the Astros.
The Astros continued their torrid strikeout piece reaching double digit strikeouts for the third time this season.
As was common for the writers of TCB to say last year at the beginning of the year, three games is a small sample size and this was something we expected to be an ongoing theme this year. I don't know what it is about strikeouts that gets fans all riled up but expecting or even wanting some of these hitters to suddenly become contact hitters is going to only set that fan up for disappointment. Whether you like it or not there are going to be batting average's in the low .200s but there are also going to be some hard hit balls and long bombs.
In the field two miscues furthered fan angst when Chris Carter whiffed on catching a fly ball down the third base line and Ronny Cedeno dropped the ball on what would have been an inning ending double play.
I imagine Bo Porter's blood pressure was on the high end after this one.
Still the Astros didn't get swept and they didn't give up a perfect game. The strikeouts are an issue but I'm sure the coaches are well aware of them and it's something they will address. It's a long season and anything done now isn't predictive of what is going to happen in the future.

Philip Humber went 5.2 innings allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out two Ranger batters.
