Pitching Falls Apart in OkC's 10-3 Loss

Jordan Lyles was set up to pick up a win with five innings of two run ball when he handed the ball to draft-mate Ross Seaton. He pitched well in his first start in which he pitched four innings and only allowed one run, but last night he gave up seven runs through three innings to St. Louis' AAA club, which included J.R. Towles. Towles added a little insult to injury with a home run against Seaton. Robbie Grossman played the part of leadoff hitter once again and continues to post a great OBP by picking up two hits and two walks. You can't complain about a CF in AAA with an OBP over .400. Fernando Martinez made the first appearance of his Rehab Assignment by going hitless and striking out in twice in true Astros form.

Hooks Fail to Produce Enough Runs Late

It only took two pitchers to get through the game, but they both gave up three runs. Nick Tropeano and Bobby Doran have been a good tandem but they allowed six runs in total over eight innings and each gave up a home run. They faced off against high end pitching prospect Tyler Matzek who shut the offense down for six innings and struck out six. Michael Burgess is continuing his issues with contact and picked up four more strikeouts.

  • Nick Tropeano-5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 1 HR, 5/2 GO/AO, 71/48 S/P

Big Innings Lifts JetHawks to 6-1 Win

Chalk the night up to one big inning and phenomenal pitching. Tandem pitching worked to perfection with Brady Rodgers and Chris Devenski held the Modesto Nuts to just one run. Devenski has been a nice surprise this year as his 16 strikeout no-hitter has translated to Lancaster so far. He's struck out twelve and walked only three in his twelve innings this year. During that time, he's only allowed two runs. Matt Duffy provided the biggest punch with a three run shot in the 8th inning, his fourth this season.

  • Brady Rodgers-5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO, 6/3 GO/AO

River Bandits Win Close Game 3-2

Vincent Velasquez did post the great strikeout numbers but he induced almost all weak contact. He induced a very impressive number of groundouts with twelve. The play that perked scouting ears came in the second inning when Rio Ruiz launched his first home run of the season. Reports are that he crushed it. Ruiz hasn't done much to impress statistically in the small sample size, so this may be what he needed to get jump started.

  • Vincent Velasquez-5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO, 12/2 GO/AO
  • Joe Bircher-3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 6/1 GO/AO
