TCB's Astros Fan Favorite March Madness Tournament is underway. From now until the end of Spring Training, 64 players will face off in a head-to-head public vote to determine who advances to the next round, and who will eventually be crowned the community's favorite Astros player. For more details, click here for the introductory post.
The rules are simple: Determine which player you think should advance to the next round by voting for that player. Arguments made for an advancing player in the comments section below may be used in that player's description for the next round. Vote subjectively, objectively or by using your trusty magic eight ball. Votes will last exactly 24 hours.
In this match-up:
6 - Jose Altuve
Jose Altuve spent his first full year in the majors last year posting a .325 wOBA in 630 plate appearnce, at the age of 22. For context, a league average hitter last year posted a .315 wOBA; A league average second basemen posted a .302 wOBA. Altuve's wOBA along with his seven homeruns and 33 stolen bases gave Houston above average offensive production at second base last year.
Vs
59 - Brett Oberholtzer
Brett Oberholtzer isn't competing in this tournament on stats alone. He has quite possibly one of the best, most fun, names to say in the system which has lead to nicknames like Obiehockey. On the statistics side he's been solid posting a 4.37 ERA in 166.2 innings, 28 starts, between AA Corpus Christi and AAA Oklahoma City. At 23 next year he's still young enough to make the necessary adjustments to be a solid rotation piece for the major league club.
