TCB March Madness 2013: Vincent Velasquez Vs Ross Seaton

Astros right-handed pitching prospect Vincent Velasquez vs right-handed pitching prospect Ross Seaton

TCB's Astros Fan Favorite March Madness Tournament is underway. From now until the end of Spring Training, 64 players will face off in a head-to-head public vote to determine who advances to the next round, and who will eventually be crowned the community's favorite Astros player. For more details, click here for the introductory post.

The rules are simple: Determine which player you think should advance to the next round by voting for that player. Arguments made for an advancing player in the comments section below may be used in that player's description for the next round. Vote subjectively, objectively or by using your trusty magic eight ball. Votes will last exactly 24 hours.

In this match-up:

49 - Vincent Velasquez

Coming off Tommy John surgery that wiped out his entire 2011 season Vincent Velasquez saw limited time on the mound for the Astros Tri-City low A club what innings he did pitch were nothign short of dazzling. In 45.2 starter innings Velazquez posted a 2.85 Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) with 51 strikeouts and 17 walks. 2013 could be a big year for Vincent Velasquez.

Vs

61 - Ross Seaton

Right-handed pitcher Ross Seaton made significant progress in his development last year between AA and AAA. In 169.1 innings he posted a 3.93 ERA as a starter for the two levels. Despite being drafted in the third round of the 2008 draft he is only 23 and still a prospect, he just missed TCB's top 30 prospect list by one spot. Continuing improvement in his development as a starter could mean a call-up to the majors at some point in 2013.
