I am quite certain that Alan Ashby would have had tons of insight on this Blue Jays team, which he broadcast for the past five seasons. Thankfully, he is now back in Houston; to ease the loss of Jim Deshaies. Unfortunately, Mr. Ashby will not be on the air till tomorrow when Astros take on the Yankees (CSN Houston, 12:05 PM CST). (It burns to even type those letters)
The Blue Jays will be running out, University of Houston product Brad Lincoln. Lincoln, fourth overall pick in the 2006 draft by the Pirates, Pittsburgh traded Lincoln in 2012 straight up for outfielder Travis Snider. The Blue Jays have a stacked rotation with 2012 Cy-Young Winner R.A. Dickey, Josh Johnson, Brandon Morrow, and Mark Buehrle. Lincoln will be fighting for that fifth spot with Rickey Romero, who is coming off a down year (11-11 4.52 ERA).
Taking the mound for the Astros today is Alex White. White came to the Astros by way of Colorado, as part of the Wilton Lopez deal. As one of the dark horses to make the Astros rotation, White will be making his first start in Spring Training. Robbie Grossman and Brett Wallace will be in the lineup today. Both are off to hot starts, Grossman has a .571 average through three games and Wallace has a home run and 4 RBIs in ten at-bats. Big time Astros prospects, George Springer, Delino DeShields, Jr., and Jarred Cosart will see action today.
