TCB March Madness 2013: Matt Dominguez vs Brady Rodgers

Third basemen Matt Dominguez vs hometown right-handed prospect pitcher Brady Rodgers

TCB's Astros Fan Favorite March Madness Tournament is underway. From now until the end of Spring Training 64 players will spend the next several weeks facing off in a head to head public vote to determine who advances to the next round and who will eventually be crowned the community's favorite Astros player. For more details, click here for the introductory post.

The rules are simple: Determine which player you want to advance to the next round by voting for that player. Arguments made in the comments section for an advancing player may be used in that player's description for the next round. Vote subjectively, objectively or by using your trusty magic eight ball. Votes will last exactly 24 hours.

In this match-up:

11 - Matt Dominguez

In 2012 Matt Dominguez made a smart man out of Jeff Luhnow by posting a 111 OPS+ with five homers in 113 plate apperances while also playing above-average defense after his acquisition in the Carlos Lee trade. Dominguez is a slick fielding third basemen who the Astros hope will hit enough to warrant a spot in the everyday lineup. The 2013 season will go a long way to help determine if those 2012 offensive numbers were just a flash in the pan or if Dominguez can become one of the better third basemen in the league both offensively and defensively.

Vs

54 - Brady Rodgers

Drafted in the third round of the 2012 MLB draft, right-handed pitcher Brady Rodgers did well for himself in low A Tri-City, posting a 2.89 ERA in 12 starts and 62.1 innings with the club. His seven wins tied for the team lead, and was third in the New York-Penn League. Expect Rodgers to continue to make solid progress through the minors next year.
