The 2013 MLB Draft has been a hot topic amongst Astros fans this spring, mostly because they'll be selecting first overall. The team has reportedly narrowed down their list of 1.1 candidates to eight players, which most certainly includes the year's top high school prospects, Austin Meadows and Clint Frazier. (Frazier and Meadows ranked third and fourth on the second installment of our TCB Draft Board).
On Tuesday night, Meadows and Frazier faced off, in a battle between two of the Nation's top high school teams. As you can imagine, the amount of scouts, writers and fans in attendance was exponentially greater than a normal high school crowd. Everyone wanted a glimpse of the top two high school prospects.
Frazier's team, Loganville High, beat Meadows team, Grayson High, by a score of 14-4 "mercy rule", behind a monster game from Frazier. The 6-foot lefty finished the game 2-4, with two home runs and five RBIs. Meanwhile, Meadows went 0-1, with a walk and HBP.
Frazizer and Meadows remain neck-in-neck in most draft rankings, but Frazier has moved ahead of Meadows, in a lot of eyes. After batting .424, with 24 home runs, as a junior, Frazier has picked up where he left off in 2013. Through seven games, he's batting .600, with six home runs, and 18 RBIs. High School stats generally mean less than the "I love you"s thrown around on The Bachelor, but video of last night's monster shot speaks for itself (video below). I describe it as "Swing, Swag, Repeat".
