Big news from last night's action is quite simple. Jesse Wierzbicki hit for the CYCLE! Big congratulations to that guy! For those that don't follow real closely, no this isn't another case of the Lancaster effect because he hasn't reached High-A yet. For those who follow very closely, this isn't a Tri-City effect with their offensive park either. He plays for Tri-City but they were on the road in Brooklyn who has a more neutral park. Either way, impressive feat.

So, lets talk about him for a second since he's having a very good year (.839 OPS). The thing that jumps off the table is that he's 23 years old and will turn 24 in November. Not a good sign. He did get a cup of coffee in Lexington for little while but was squeezed back down for roster inflexibility. He can draw a few walks and doesn't have an atrocious strikeout rate. He has really improved his strikeout rate but it still isn't a great one. He also can steal some bases (16) for a first baseman. So, he's more athletic than your typical first baseman.

The other big news is that Grant Hogue stole HOME! That's always an exciting play. Hogue has put together another strong season, despite being injured a lot. He's a good presence in the clubhouse and really takes the younger guys under his wing, but at age 26, things aren't looking bright. He doesn't strike out alot and draws a few walks, definitely steals bases, and hits for a high average. What more can you ask from a guy? A little power? He provided that with doubles and triples.

With Lancaster's win last night, they now have a one game lead on the Wild Card, so that team is doing great. They have to keep winning, obviously, but they are hot at the right time. They are starting a series with Lake Elsinore tonight and they are the ones that are just a game back, so it's a big series for them starting tonight. Be sure to tune into Jason Schwartz on JetHawks radio to listen in. He does a great job and makes listening to the games a lot of fun.
