Astros Minor League Recap: July 3, 2012

Jeff Luhnow is currently on a trip to the Oklahoma City RedHawks in action for a few days and based off of his twitter account, he's impressed with Mike Hessman and Brett Oberholtzer.

Good outing for Oberholtzer. He has the stuff to pitch in Houston someday.

Was hoping to see Hessman's power for myself. Didn't have to wait long. Took a CB deep.

There is also a little Q&A with Jeff Luhnow from his first night at the park that includes some quotes on Hessman, Jimmy Paredes, and Brett Wallace. You can read it here. The interesting quote from it is that Paredes could get called up at any time in a variety of positions, not just 2B.

But I think, the one thing we know about Jimmy is that he is capable of playing multiple positions, so I wouldn't hesitate to bring him up even if it were for a different position

Interesting!

Another note is on Brett Phillips. The guy has ten hits so far as a professional baseball player and exactly half have gone for triples. I think you have to have to have some pretty good speed to accomplish that. He also has one double and three stolen bases (caught twice). He's also drawn six walks in his forty-two plate appearances, but has struck out a pretty terrible sixteen times. We are getting what we expected, a raw athlete. But, at this stage it is impressive.
