Astros Minor League Recap: July 17, 2012

Moves are coming...and not all good ones either. It's out on twitter that somebody from Lancaster has been released. I have my guesses, but I'm not gonna say. It very well could be out by the time this publishes. If not, be on the lookout for that information to break.

But, releases are typically associated with either the team giving up on a prospect or that somebody that is a better prospect has earned a promotion to take their spot. I don't which it is in this case as I don't know who it is. This comes just hours after this quote from Fred Nelson is put up on Astros.com.

I think there's some guys we've targeted who could be upward moves, some pitching guys and position players," he said. "When the time is appropriate, we'll do that.

I find this kind of interesting in another way. Who are these pitchers he's speaking of? As far as rotation arms, I don't think anyone has really done enough to be promoted besides Ross Seaton and Mike Foltynewicz, and I'm not a fan of promoting either. I'd like to see Seaton stay in CC as he has shown, and continues to show great progress there. Folty has pitched very well but I would like to see the same thing for him and wouldn't like the Lancaster jump for him nor would I like to see him in Lancaster just yet. The only one's that make sense are the Tri-City guys and I don't think he's talking about those considering he also mentioned letting them get settled in later on. I would have to assume that it's bullpen guys like Jason Stoffel that may be earning a promotion.

He spoke pretty candidly about a Springer promotion, but you have to think that it's in the works and will happen very soon. Heck, he even drew two walks last night. It may be that time.
