Astros Minor League Recap: July 16, 2012

I didn't have time to put the whole weekend together, so it's just going to be box scores from the yesterday. But I'll try to run through some of the headlines from Friday through Sunday.

Probably the biggest is that Lance McCullers Jr. made his debut on Friday and Rio Ruiz made his debut Saturday. LMJ pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out two. He also had a 3/2 GO/AO, which nice to see. Great to see him on the mound. Rio hit from the DH role and went 1-3 with two walks and a strikeout. Nice debut for a guy who is mostly tools at 3B.

The Tri-City pitching staff continues to dominate and make sure every game is winnable, but that's easy with a lineup like theirs. Aaron West and Vincent Velasquez both pitched good outings on Friday and Saturday. Vince picked up eight strikeouts! Speaking of their lineup, Andrew Aplin hit a homerun on Friday and a triple on Saturday. He was then hit in the ankle by a pitch and was injured. Hopefully he's not out long.

In Lancaster, the offense went off last night and George Springer is on a hitting streak of three multi-hit games in a row. Domingo Santana also had two home runs over the weekend.
