Astros Minor League Recap: June 8, 2012

So glad to start getting these draft picks signed! I think you'll see a lot of guys starting to sign here in the next few days now that they know a lot more about their budget with Correa's deal done. I can't wait to start seeing how Correa does in pro ball. The Gulf Coast League gets started up June 18th, so that's the date to look forward to. The 17th round pick, Aaron West is set to sign today (h/t Astros County).

I've tooted the horn of Nick Tropeano all season, and looking at the surface of his stat line from last night, it looks great. But he had to pitch out of a few jams. The second inning stayed scoreless thanks to a great throw from Justin Gominsky to strike the runner down at home plate. He gave up a double earlier and on a passed ball, the runner advanced to 3rd. Next batter flew out and the runner tried to tag up but was shot down. In the third, he left a runner on second. In the sixth, he issued a leadoff walk and then a triple that scored the leadoff man. Then struck the next two out before issuing another walk then striking out the next to end the inning. He came out for the 7th and gave up a single and issued a walk before being pulled. Gouvea wouldn't allow the runners to score.

He seems to struggle with his command at times, based off the numbers. Perhaps leaving him in Lexington a little longer isn't so bad so he can refine that a little more. It's unlikely he gets that lucky with LOB% like that in AA. It's also worth noting that he's been unlucky with balls in play as his BABIP is .339 right now.
