Lots of stuff going on right now in the minor leagues. With the All-Star festivities in full swing for the California League and South Atlantic League, there's a little extra to talk about. Matt Duffy made it to the final round of the Home Run Derby and finished second. He then went 2-2 in the All-Star game last night. George Springer knocked four bombs in his round of Home Run Derby but didn't advance to the finals.
I attended the OkC game last night and my scouting of Wes Musick ended with big fail as he lasted only two pitches into the second inning before leaving with an arm injury. Fastball was at 88 MPH and his curveball looks like his out pitch. He had trouble locating all of his pitches which is why he was at 34 pitches at the end of first inning. With him having arm injury after a pitch, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something that was even bothering him in the first.
Jarred Cosart had a great start and looks like the next pitcher in the Corpus Christi rotation to have it "click." A very impressive outing. Some might point out that it was against the San Antonio Missions who had the worst record in the Texas League South Division for the first (last night was last game of the first half), but they actually have a middle of the pack offense for the Texas League. But, even if they were a bad offense, it's really nice to see him have a such a good K:BB ratio for the game. It was by far his best start this season. I don't know anything about the start other than I saw on twitter that he mixed his pitches well.
