Astros History: Through 63 in '63 And Game 63

For game 63 in 2012 I'll be looking at what the 1963 Colt .45's were doing through 63 games of their season and what happened in game 63.

Hitting:

Colt .45 hitters were hitting .217/.278/.300- Not a very good hitting team even for that time period.

Pitching:

Colt .45 pitchers had a 3.44 ERA - A good ERA but in this time period only average.

Coincidentally, the Colt .45's were also taking on the San Francisco Giants like the current Astros are doing today. In the Colt .45 series the Astros took only one game in the four game series with the Giants. The Colt's lost game 63 1-0 to Juan Marichal who defeated Dick Drott. Both pitchers went the distance for their teams, unfortunately, for Colt .45 fans this wasn't just any loss it was a no-hit loss.

That's right, Hall of Famer Juan Marichal threw his one and only no-hitter against the Astros on June 15, 1963.

Marichal's pitching line that day:

Pitching IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA BF GSc IR IS WPA aLI RE24
Juan Marichal, W (10-3) 9 0 0 0 2 5 0 2.52 29 90 0.649 1.07 3.8
Team Totals 9 0 0 0 2 5 0 0.00 29 90 0.649 1.13 3.8
