The Cardinals having been embarrassed Saturday decided to turn the tables and embarrass the Astros. Still the Astros won the series and that's something to be proud of.
Pitching
There's the J.A. Happ we were expecting. This is the first game of the season J.A. Happ has allowed more than four runs, Sunday he allowed six runs, five of which were earned. His totals include six hits, four walks and three strikeouts. The pitchers that replaced Happ didn't fair much better. Enerio Del Rosario made his 2012 debut allowing one run on two hits, one walk and a strikeout in two innings pitched. Fernando Abad pitched the eighth inning giving up yet another homerun, this time to Tyler Greene.
The fan maligned Brandon Lyon was the only pitcher to have success against the Cardinals, striking out two and allowing only one hit in the ninth inning. Overall the Astros allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits, six walks and seven strikeouts.
Offense
The lone run was attributed to a wild pitch scored by Carlos Lee. Overall the Astros collected eight hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. Three Astros reached base multiple times, Jose Altuve, Carlos Lee and Travis Buck. Others collecting a hit were Jed Lowrie, Chris Johnson and Jason Castro.
Defense
one outstanding play, one bad play. In the third, on what looked to be a double play, Altuve made an errant throw that allowed Matt Holliday to reach an advance to second. The one outstanding play came via Brian Bogusevic who was 0-4 on the day. In the seventh Bogusevic took a homerun away from David Freese after making a leap grab at the right field wall.
Monday
Astros take on the Miami Marlins 7:05 p.m. CDT Carlos Zambrano vs Wandy Rodriguez.
