The Game
The Astros and White Sox decided nine innings was enough so settled for a tie in the Spring Training finale for both teams. Both teams scored fives runs, the Astros collected 10 hits and two walks. Jose Altuve and Chris Johnson both had a hit, a walk and a run scored. J.D. Martinez and Brian Bogusevic both contributed homeruns to the offensive performance.
On the pitching side J.A. Happ started the game and allowed two runs in five innings. Kyle Weiland would follow with three runs scored in two innings.
The Roster
J.B. Shuck, Justin Ruggiano and Henry Sosa were all sent down. The Astros will carry a 13 man pitching staff into the season, deciding that it was worth keeping both Wesley Wright and Fernando Abad on the roster. I assumed Justin Ruggiano would of made the roster, but as Jeff Luhnow has shown this Spring it's never safe to assume anything with him in charge. I don't have a problem with the roster, however, I'm sure we'll see some new faces by the end of April. There I go assuming again.
The Chat
Alyson Footer has the final roster and transcript from the Jeff Luhnow chat.
Highlights:
- Chase Davidson is banged up, however, Luhnow said he was impressed with him when he scouted him last summer for the Cardinals.
- Luhnow rates the Spring training as 8 on a scale of 1-10
- Luhnow says Brad Mills is open to input in regards to the lineup (Just say no to Angel Sanchez in the two hole)
