School and work got in the way of me getting anything done on this site over the weekend, which means I have a lot to get you caught up on. A lot happened over the weekend, and a lot ranges from 14 inning games all the way to players returning from injury. I would do this in a bullet format...because that's what I do in my posts, but I figured there are enough bullets after the jump. So, I'll highlight the happenings at every level.
First up is Oklahoma City who went 1-2 over the weekend. The highlight was a 14 inning game yesterday that started with a very poor AAA debut for Ross Seaton, who is filling in for a spot start only with Paul Clemens out with a slight muscle strain. Brian Bixler resumed his hot hitting, and Jimmy Paredes joined him and has now brought his batting average up to the .300 range. No demotion needed afterall perhaps.
For the Hooks, the bats came alive in a big way, while the pitching stayed hot as they went 3-0 over the weekend to win their series 3-1. Brett Oberholtzer finally had a good game, and when I say a good game, I mean a dominant game. Jarred Cosart returned for a very solid game yesterday, and Jake Buchanan pitched better than his hit total would suggest. On the other side of the game, Jonathan Singleton and Chris Wallace both hit their first homeruns and Brandon Barnes continued to pick up hits (and homeruns) like they are going out of style.
Lancaster went win-less over the weekend, but the pitching was actually good, headlined by an eight inning performance with only two runs from Wes Musick. Ruben Alaniz and David Martinez pitched pretty well considering the environment of the Cal league. The offense was very un-JetHawk like over the weekend however and really only George Springer did things to take note of in a positive manner. Unless, you consider Ben Orloff coming back healthy a positive thing, in which I do. Domingo Santana does continue to look overwhelmed at the plate in terms of strikeouts, and that total is looking terrible. Brad Dydalewicz is also joining the team today.
Lexington did the opposite with a 3-0 weekend, which the headline is that Mike Foltynewicz continues to be awesome this season. Jason Chowning picked up another scoreless outing to grab another save. And Tanner Bushue pitched out of relief. Who didn't see that one coming? DDJ had a good game and Zach Johnson is still pacing the team's offense since he is too advanced for the league, but lacks the upside to leap frog the other 1B prospects in the system.
