Astros to Deshaies: thank you for broadcasting we will take you job into consideration.

Today it became public that longtime Astros' TV Broadcaster Jim Deshaies has accepted a position as color commentator for the Chicago Cubs.

I will pause to allow you all to wail and gnash your teeth.

While I'm sure commenters and certain other TCB writers will fill this thread with vitriol unmatched since the great Khan invasion, the truth is that we don't actually know what went on between the Astros front office and the fans' favorite TV personality. According to Alyson Footer, fellow former-Astro media personality extraordinaire:

Deshaies' Cubs deal is for four years. Astros counter-offered. Source said counter-offer was very fair for market value.

It's good to hear that the Astros gave it the ol' college try, but fans will nontheless be jaded by the Astros perceived disregard of the their opinions. We've lost so much - and this is just another kidney punch. We're getting used to them.

Hopefully this situation was driven by behind-the-scenes issues that we will never find out about and that Deshaies made this decision because of personal reasons rather than because of the perceived blasé attitude of the Astros perpetuated by Twitter and the blogosphere. Regardless of the reasons for this parting, Astros fans and writers wish JD the best and will look back on the recent Fox Sports Houston tag-team as the best TV broadcasting team in baseball.
