If you want a play-by-play recap of the event check out Grant Brisbee's live blog of the event. As for me I thought the event was fun and minus the audio licensing issues it was very well done. I loved the breaking news alert that setup the Orbit intro, in fact I think that was my favorite part of the whole reveal.
I expressed some concern in an article earlier this week about Orbit returning as the Astros mascot. I'm happy to say what I saw tonight I'm very impressed with. I think they did a good job updating the mascot outfit, and I was very happy with what I saw tonight (May have to click on the link to get the gif to show).
Now onto the uniforms.
Consider me not as thrilled as I hoped. I wouldn't say I'm disappointed and I'm hoping as I look at them more and more I'll change my mind, but right now consider me slightly disappointed. I love the BP/Spring training jerseys. I like that they incorporated rainbow's under the armpits. The others I worry are too much like the Mets Jerseys and I was kind of hoping for a shooting star across the chest for some of the jerseys. I've never been a fan of two colored hats, where the bill is a different color, but I realize it happens.
When discussing the changes Jim Crane said the uniforms would be a classy uniforms with an updated look. My impressions of these, minus the BP/ST jersey, is that they're more vintage than updated. Uniforms do sometimes undergo tweaks here and there and at this point I gotta say I wouldn't mind a few tweaks here and there. I realize a new color scheme is a big overhaul for not just uniforms but also for the ballpark, but I was kind of hoping for a little more modern and a lot loss throwback.
Judging by the reaction on Twitter, I'm sure many disagree with me and that's fine. I'm not upset about them, it just seems like they're missing something that would make them truly unique.
Anyways here are two more fun gifs for your enjoyment.
