The big news for today is that three ValleyCats were chose to the New York-Penn League All-Star Game. The three were LHP Kyle Hallock, 3B Matt Duffy, and OF Justin Gominsky. We've discussed Gominsky's athleticism before after David Gersham wrote a write-up on him and he's definitely a sleeper prospect, although his best chance to make it will be CF as his power potential won't be realized with his current swing. But, we know the staff in Corpus can make the necessary adjustments (JD Martinez). After the draft, Tim listed Duffy as one of his late round favorites simply because he was a 20th rounder and the Astros seem to have a lot of luck in that round. So far, so good! I'd like to see some more home run power from Duffy since he plays in a hitters park and you expect some power from 3B. Hallock is intriguing, especially after his eleven strikeout performance early on, but given his age and repatoire, he'll have to prove it at much higher levels.
I also wanted to highligh Ross Seaton's impressive start last night. I'm going to dig deeper into Seaton in the next few weeks but I will say a little about him here. He's way ahead of the curve by being in AA and holding his own at times. His strikeout rate has risen by a very small percentage this season so that has to be at least somewhat encouraging. The thing with Seaton is that his velocity is still high and reports are that his stuff still flashes potential. When he puts it together for a night, it's fun to see and continues to give hope for the future.
