Astros Minor League Recap

New, 128 comments

In the words of Charlie Sheen, "Winning!"  No, the teams in the minors didn't, but the major pieces of the Pence trade performed great!

Jarred Cosart not only made his debut in the Astros organization, he moved up a level and made his AA debut, and he impressed!  He pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just two baserunners (both by hits).  He actually faced just one over the minimum as one was thrown out trying to steal.  He struck out four and induced ten groundouts.  That is a recipe for success.  Reports are that he was pitching consistently in the mid 90's and was touching the upper 90's with his fastball.  The thing that I noticed and I liked the most was that he consistently located his fastball low in the zone and was efficient (threw less than 80 pitches in six innings).

Jonathan Singleton received his induction into the Cal League with a big loss.  Bakersfield posted 20 runs against Lancaster, but the JetHawks did a little damage of their own.  Four our guys went yard, and that number included Singleton!  Singleton hit his first bomb in the Astros organization and also hit a single.
