Astros Minor League Recap

There was some pretty good pitching last night in the minors with Kyle Hallock and Paul Clemens doing what they do.  There was also some bad pitching, I'm looking at you Tanner Bushue!  You can actually read about Clemen's start and about how he feels about being traded.  He seems excited for the opportunity and about getting out from shadow casted by the other big named prospects in the Braves system. He is definitely my favorite player out of the Bourn trade and so far he's looking really good in the Astros system.

Kyle Hallock had another solid outing you can read about it here.  Although, he has Hallock going six innings and MiLB.com has him at five innings.  So the start may have been better than what they have.  Hallock is pitching in the mid-upper 80's with his fastball, and I'd like for him to bring that up a bit.  Being a college guy, his velocity doesn't dip as much as the high school kids when they turn pro, and some don't experience the dip at all.  It'll be interesting if he can pitch consistently in the upper 80s or even reach low 90's as he moves up next year.

Francis Ramirez was one of the first IFA that Felix Francisco targeted when he took over scouting in Latin America and he's been an interesting arm to monitor.  He's had good strikeout numbers his who time as a pro but overall his numbers have been fairly mediocre with suspect defense playing behind him.  He was promoted to Greeneville the other day and pitched his first game last night and the results were solid.  I don't have anything on this guy, but he's an arm to watch as he's still young and has a very projectable frame.
