This Day In Astros History: June 6, 2008

For this look back in Astros history, we're going back to the first year of the Bobby Heck Era when the Astros beat the Cardinals 6-1 at Minute Maid Park.

Brian Moehler got the victory, pitching seven shutout innings while striking out five and allowing two hits and two walks. Geoff Geary gave up a run, but Jose Valverde locked down the ninth to finish things off. Braden Looper started for the Cards and took the loss.

Mark Loretta was one of the hitting stars for Houston in this one, going 4 for 4. Geoff Blum went 2 for 4 with a solo home run in the eighth. Hunter Pence and Darin Erstad added doubles in this one while Kaz Matsui went 2 for 4.

Oh, and this was officially the second day of that first Bobby Heck draft, so we're a day after Jordan Lyles and Ross Seaton were selected. The most notable Day 2 selections from this draft were catcher Rene Garcia and relievers Mike Modica and Danny Meszaros.

Here's the graphic replay of the game, thanks to Back to Baseball and here's the recap of the game from TCB.
