First off, congratulations to Carlos Lee on his 2,000th and 2,001st career hits. Only 17 active players have hit that milestone, so he deserves some kudos today. Plus, Lee added a line drive into the Crawford Boxes for his second hit of the night, marking the third home run Houston hit in the game.
Which is nice, considering the Astros came into the gamew with just 19 home runs all season. Every hitter in the Houston lineup got a hit, except for Q. Lee, Wallace, CJ and Hall each had two hits, with Hall adding an opposite field home run. Matt Downs had a pinch-hit home run and J.A. Happ worked around his control problems to get through the sixth inning for the victory.
For all the good things about this game, we'll sweep a couple of the unpleasant things under the rug (like Melancon's inning of work). I'd also like to say how impressed I was with Clint Barmes in the field. He made a play late in this game that looked really easy but was pretty incredible. Going to his right, he gloved a bouncer that took a funny hop and threw to second to get the lead runner. The way the ball hopped so late, I wasn't sure if he could get to it, and then he not only gloved it, but was able to make the throw across his body with his momentum going towards third. It was a nice play.
So, we head into Sunday's rubber game with Aneury on the mound. Maybe we'll get the good Aneury this time.
