Tri-City has won the first game of the three game series against Batavia with a final score of 10-9 after the 11th inning. This would have been an exciting game to attend and wish I lived in the area. It had it all! It had four home runs, including a walk-off, extra innings, and even a few good pitching performances.
Carlos Quevedo has been one of the most consistent pitchers for Tri-City this year and he took the ball for the all-important Game 1. He pitched well for the most part but his two baserunners that he allowed in the sixth inning were charged to him as his total stat line was 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO.
More on the game, including the box score, after the jump.
Going into the sixth inning, Tri-City had built a substantial 7-3 lead thanks mostly to Marcus Nidiffers three run shot in the first inning and Telvin Nash's three run shot in the third inning. But, Quevedo's two base runners combined with Alex Sogard and Murillo Gouvea blowing up, Batavia scored six runs in the sixth to go up 9-7.
Travis Blankenship and Brandt Walker were able to hold Batavia scoreless for the next three innings and just long enough for the ValleyCats to strike in the bottom of the ninth. Ben Orloff took a leadoff walk and Chris Wallace brought him home with his two-run shot.
Brian Streilein was able to induce just one out in the 10th and walked two batters before getting pulled for Michael Ness who came in and cleaned up the mess as well as shuting down the offense in the 11th. Chris Wallace led off the bottom of the inning with a groundout but Dan Adamson followed him up with a walk-off homerun to take the first game.
