Astros Tuesday Minor League Recap

Some bad news from the minors came up last night.  Both, Austin Wates (Tri-City)  and Vincent Velasquez (Greeneville), had to leave their respective games due to injury.  Both injuries could be anything from nothing to worry about to pretty serious by early indications.  Appy Astros posted a Game Report last night after the game and had this to say about the Velasquez injury.

Vincent Velasquez left the game in the middle of an at bat due to a "crunching" sound in his elbow. Not sure of any diagnosis but word was it is more likely to be bone related (spur, loose body) than to be ligament related.

Worst-case scenario would be a surgery to clean up some stuff in the elbow and best-case would be short rest to recover.  In the case of it being major and requiring surgery, this could put him out for the rest of the short season and out of Instructional League.  He just started pitching this year and needs the innings and work to learn to pitch and develop his stuff.

Wates tweeted that he was going to get an X-Ray on his hand.  I don't know the results of the X-Ray, but the ValleyCats tweeted after the game that Wates wrist was taped up but he was using it in the clubhouse.  It doesn't seem like anything serious and will likely just take rest to recover and be back on the field soon.  He definitely needs to be healthy for the Instructional League so that he can solidify a defensive position.

Round Rock won 3-2

  • Brian Moehler (0.00)-3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO-Left the outing early with a tight groin, just another set back.
  • Shane Loux (5.40)-6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO
  • Jack Shuck CF (.293)-1-4, 2B
  • Drew Locke RF (.288)-1-4, 2B, SO

Corpus Christi lost 5-1

  • Dallas Keuchel (5.17)-6 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO-He induced ten groundouts to four flyouts so that is really good.  He gave up a lot of hits to CF.
  • Matt Nevarez (3.63)-1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 SO
  • Freddy Parejo CF (.324)-2-4, SO
  • J.D. Martinez RF (.324)-2-4, 2 SO
  • Jonathan Gaston DH (.249)-2-4
  • Michael Affronti 3B (.276)-2-4, SO
  • Lou Santangelo C (.231)-2-4, 2B, SO

Lancaster lost 10-4

  • Ross Seaton (6.53)-2/3 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO, 0 HR-Remember after his last start that was pretty good and I said "don't worry, he'll frustrate me next week?"  Well there ya go!  This wasn't even in Lancaster.
  • David Carpenter (0.00)-1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO
  • Andrew Simunic 3B (.335)-1-3, 2B, BB, SO

Lexington lost 5-4

  • Jose Cisnero (3.94)-7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO-Great start!  He also had 13 groundouts and just four flyouts!
  • Yordany Ramirez (40.50)-1/3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO-Eesh!
  • Jio Mier SS (.238)-2-3, BB-A little over a week ago his batting average was around .220 and it's almost .240 now!
  • Jake Goebbert RF-LF (.286)-2-4, 2B, SO
  • Kody Hinze 1B (.275)-1-4, HR
  • Bryce Lane LF (.267)-1-3, BB, SO-I'm becoming intrigued by this guy the more I research him.  He was given a signing bonus of about the the 15th round when he was drafted in the 41st.  Did he just slip through the cracks?  He just turned 21 yesterday and pictures of him make him look like a nice build to him. He's not incredibly tall at just 6 ft, but at a 190 pounds, he could add some more muscle and probably be a nice power hitter.  He hit 26 in his last season of community college in 195 at-bats.  Yeah it was community college with aluminum bats, but still!

Tri-City won 5-4

  • Robby Doran (4.50)-4 2/3 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO
  • Travis Blankenship (1.07)-1 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO

  • Alex Sogard (3.19)-2 1/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO
  • Jorge De Leon (0.43)-2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO
  • Ben Orloff SS (.309)-1-4, 2B, 2 BB, SB
  • Kike Hernandez 2B (.288)-1-4, 2 BB, SO
  • Tyler Burnett 3B (.259)-1-5, 2B, BB, 2 SO
  • Dan Adamson CF (.284)-1-5, HR, 2 SO

Greeneville won 2-1

  • Vincent Velasquez (3.07)-3 2/3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, 1 HR

GCL Astros lost 4-2

  • Mark Jones (3.91)-4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO-He induced six groundouts to just one flyout which is really good, but his command is really bad at this point with four walks and three wild pitches.
  • Jordan Scott CF (.285)-2-4, SO
  • Kyle Redinger DH (.233)-2-4
  • Chan Moon 3B (.218)-0-4, 4 SO
