Jordan Lyles third AAA start is now in the books and while he was effective, it wasn't a Lyles-esque performance. Lyles is a guy who has solid strikeout numbers throughout his career and seeing him not pick up any strikeouts is curious to me. Although, he did have a lot more groundouts than he normally does. So, what does that mean? Burt Hooton has gotten a hold of him. Hooton has been quoted many times about how his big tendency to pushing for groundballs, and that isn't a bad thing. OremLK mentioned in the game thread that Hooton is likely pushing Lyles to use his 2-seam more, which I have to agree with. I agree that Lyles needs to probably use his 2-seam some more so that he can improve his GB rate, but I don't think he needs to feature it to the point where his line resembles Shane Loux's. He's got strikeout stuff with amazing command. There is no reason to turn him into an extreme groundball pitcher where he can't fully utilize his stuff. There's got to be a balance there. I'm not going to get alarmed by what Hooton is doing yet, because this is just one start and he should have a few more this year and at least half a season next year (or at least I hope so). But, if this trend continues where his strikeout rate is way too low for into most of next season, I might even start clamoring to get him called up to the majors to get him away from Hooton.

- Brandon Wikoff (.339)-3-4, BB
- Brandon Barnes (.267)-1-5, HR
- Brian Pellegrini (.278)-1-4, HR, BB-He's hit 11 home runs in less that 150 AB's! Lancaster or not, that's still good power.
- Mark Ori (.288)-2-2, 2 BB
- Bryce Lane (.000)-0-2, BB, 2 CS-He was selected in the 41st round of this years draft and hit poorly in Greeneville but hit pretty well in the GCL. He was promoted this weekend and it came as quite a surprise. It's probably to replace Lee Cruz who went on the DL a few days ago but has actually been out of action for a while. Being that the season ends in about a week or two, the FO is probably not wanting to have to do a big wave of OF promotions, they just sent one from a team that has excess, GCL. But, I'm still surprised he's already getting playing time.

- Mike Foltynewicz (4.89)-4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO-Seven strikeouts is nice no matter how innings you pitch, it's even better with no walks. He struggled early and now has just one walk in two outings.
