This actually happened to me tonight. As I was working on this recap, my wife came into the room and asked me, in her best, condescending but concerned voice, "How ya' doing, buddy? Are you okay?"
She had seen the final score of the game right before she walked in. It was that bad.
Worse, she knew this wasn't a fluky blowout. She had seen the Astros up by six runs early, and was blown away that they could lose so abruptly.
I was not.
I'd like to talk about Chris Johnson's nice home run to center field. Or Carlos Lee having another nice day at the plate. But, the error by Keppinger haunts me. The home runs by Aramis Ramirez are seared into my retinas. The shouts of "GET WESLEY FREAKIN' WRIGHT OUT OF THERE!!!" that I directed at a blank-faced Brad Mills still reverberate in my ears.
That bottom of the fifth inning might have been the most painful of the season for me. Luckily, I have the WPA graph to show me just how bad it was.
Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out.
