Astros Wednesday Minor League Recap

Not as many games yesterday, just six, since the Pacific Coast League and Texas League were both off.  The Texas League was off for yesterday's All-Star Game.  Koby Clemens, Lou Santangelo, Jack Shuck, and Jordan Lyles all participated in the event, although only Lyles performed well with one scoreless inning of work and only allowed one hit.  Koby Clemens also participated in the Home Run Derby.  Out of eight contestants, six were unable to hit a home run off of Roger Clemens.  That six included Koby.

Lancaster lost 8-1

Just an ugly game for the Jet Hawks.  David Duncan pitched five innings but allowed four earned runs on nine hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.  The offense was only able to pull together three hits and Freddy Parejo was the only one with an extra base hit.  He went 1 for 3 with a double.

Lexington lost 7-4

Tanner Bushue's luck seems to be running out as he can't seem to keep the ball in the park anymore.  He pitched four and a third innings and allowed seven runs (all earned) on eight hits (two being homeruns), one walk and four strikeouts.  Colton Pitkin pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings and gave up just one hit while strikeout out two.  Aaron Bray went 2 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  Jake Goebbert went 2 for 4 with a strikeout.  Jio Mier went 1 for 4 with a double.

Tri-City lost 8-0

Murillo Gouvea lost the game and lost it early.  He gave up six four hits and three walks that led to six earned runs in just two and a third innings.  Chris Blazek's rehab stint is still going well with another inning and two-thirds of scoreless ball on one hit, two walks, a strikeout.  Alex Sogard pitched two innings of scoreless ball with two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.  Brendon Stines pitched a scoreless inning with one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts.  The offense was only able to gather four hits and it was Renzo Tello who was able to get the only extra base hit.  He went 1 for 3 with a double.

Greeneville won 2-0

This is the minor league team that has some talent.  Their pitching staff has continued a long strand of dominant performances with a shutout.  Ruben Alaniz pitched five scoreless innings and gave up just three hits, one walk, and struck out four.  Brian Streilein pitched two innings and gave up two hits and struck out three. Travis Smink picked up his third save with a strikeout, walk, and a hit in his one inning of work.  Jonathan Merritt went 1 for 4 with a double and two strikeouts.  Telvin Nash went 2 for 4 with a double.  Bubby Williams has been breaking out this short season and went 1 for 3 yesterday.  That one hit was his fourth homerun and he's only played five games.  I don't understand really.  He doesn't get much playing time and bats near the end of the lineup.

GCL Astros lost 10-6

Luis Ordosgoitti pitched another solid game but fell victim of bad luck and bad fielding behind him.  He pitched five and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs, although only one was earned.  He allowed six hits and two walks, but struck out five.  Collin DeLome went 2 for 4 in another rehab start.  Jose Fernandez went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.  Jose Vargas also went 2 for 4 and drew a walk.  Roberto Pena went 2 for 5 with a triple.  Ronald Sanchez went 1 for 3 with a double, walk, and a strikeout.

DSL Astros won 5-2

Leonardo Alayon pitched three innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits but struck out three.  Xavier Baso pitched four scoreless innings on four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.  Fredwin Campusano was ridiculous! He went 4 for 4 with a double and FOUR stolen bases.  Mario Gonzales went 1 for 1 and drew three walks.  Raymer Lopez went 2 for 4 with two doubles and a stolen base.
