A walk-off walk....Is there a better way to sum up the 2010 Astros?
AstrosCounty tweeted that little bit not long after Matt Lindstrom walked Rickie Weeks with the bases loaded. It allowed the Brewers to score the winning run and take the three-game series with Houston. There was also no better way to sum up a thoroughly disappointing game.
Where should I start?
With the Astros offense scoring two in the first and then being shut down by Dave Bush and Co.?
With Brett Myers throwing a great game, only to be derailed by the team's closer?
With Brad Mills leaving Lindstrom in for the 10th, even after he showed he didn't have his best stuff?
With Hunter Pence successfully stealing two bases in two attempts, including swiping third?
With Geoff Blum once again becoming Mr. Clutch?
With Jeff Keppinger continuing to smoke at the plate?
With another Brewers misplay leading to two unearned runs off Bush?
It was a pretty dense game for wackiness. I am also pretty bummed out by its outcome. One thing the Astros haven't done much of this season is blow leads. But, this WPA chart is pretty grim.
Look at that swing! From the Randy Wolf strikeout alone was a huge move in win probability. From the ninth inning, it was a chasm.
To top it all off, like the cherry on our Bad Karma sundae, Bud Norris is down for at least one start with biceps tendinitis. It's a bad omen heading into this weekend series with Cincinnati. I assume Brian Moehler will step into the breach for Norris, but haven't heard officially from Mills and Wade. If Norris is indeed placed on the disabled list, expect some sort of roster move.
I had to watch the game on GameCast at work, so I missed hearing lots of the commentary. Bill Brown leaving halfway through must've meant the offense should go with him. I know that there haven't been many Astros games where I had a good feeling at the beginning and slowly saw it burn off my hopefulness, until they sucker-punched me in the end. I thought those kinds of games only happened to good teams...
